Canada Visitor Visa Refusal Reasons for Pakistani Applicants (2026)

Quick Answer

A Canada visitor visa is refused when the officer is not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your visit. For Pakistani applicants that usually comes down to how convincingly the file shows your ties to Pakistan, your funds, and a clear purpose for the trip. IRCC publishes no fixed pass mark, but its own guidance names the test: ties — such as a job, home, financial assets, or family — that will take you back home. This guide explains the refusal reasons, how to read your refusal letter, and what to do next.

How Canada decides a visitor visa application

IRCC's eligibility guidance for a visitor visa sets out what an applicant must show: a valid travel document such as a passport, good health, no criminal or immigration-related convictions, enough money for the stay, and convincing an immigration officer that you have ties that will take you back to your home country and that you will leave Canada at the end of your visit. There is no scoring system, so each file is judged as a whole.

The two common refusal reasons IRCC names

IRCC's help centre says a refusal letter lists the reason or reasons the officer refused the application, and it points to two common ones.

What these mean in practice

  • The officer was not satisfied you would leave Canada on time — your ties to Pakistan (job, home, financial assets, family) or your reason for travelling did not convince them.
  • You are inadmissible to Canada — a criminal, immigration, or medical issue that has to be resolved before a new application can succeed.

👉 Your own refusal letter is the only authoritative list of why your application was refused. What follows is about how files commonly fall short, not a substitute for it.

File weaknesses that lead to a refusal

Officers do not refuse on a single line item — they refuse when the file as a whole does not answer the leave-on-time question. These are the weaknesses that most commonly undermine a visitor application, and each one feeds into that decision.

Common weaknesses

  • Weak or undocumented ties to Pakistan: no employer letter, no proof of a business or property, no evidence of family responsibilities.
  • An unclear purpose of visit: a vague itinerary, no reason for the length of stay, or an invitation that does not match the rest of your story.
  • Funds that are too small for the trip, or that appear suddenly and cannot be explained by your income history.
  • Inconsistent information: dates, job titles, or income that differ between your application form, your letters, and your bank statements.
  • Missing or incomplete documents, or a host's invitation that does not show the host's own status and ability to support you.
  • A previous refusal that the new application does not address.

How much money do you need to show?

IRCC does not publish a fixed amount. Its guidance says the money you need depends on how long you will stay and whether you will stay in a hotel or with friends or relatives. In practice, aim to show funds that clearly cover your whole trip — flights, accommodation, and daily costs — in accounts that show regular income and normal spending rather than a recent lump-sum deposit. If a relative in Canada is hosting you, their invitation should state what they will cover and show their own status and means; it supports your own funds rather than replacing them. Our UK bank balance guide explains the same statement principles in more depth, although UK and Canadian rules are different.

Your refusal letter and officer decision notes

When IRCC refuses an application it sends a refusal letter listing the reason or reasons. IRCC also includes the officer's decision notes with refusal letters for most temporary resident applications — IRCC states this has applied since July 29, 2025, and the notes explain why the application was refused. Read both carefully before doing anything else: they show which part of your file the officer found unconvincing, and that is exactly what any new application has to fix.

Should you reapply — and when?

IRCC's guidance is direct: applying again with the same information, even with an immigration representative such as a consultant or agent, will likely not change the decision. You can apply again if you have new information or documents that address the reasons in your refusal letter. IRCC's examples of changed circumstances include a changed purpose of visit, a changed employment or financial situation, approved criminal rehabilitation, or a resolved medical inadmissibility issue. Even then, IRCC notes that this does not guarantee approval. If you believe the process was unfair, IRCC says you may request a judicial review through the Federal Court of Canada — a legal step to discuss with a qualified Canadian lawyer, not something a documentation service can do for you.

How to rebuild a stronger file after a refusal

If your circumstances have genuinely changed, work through these six steps in order before you submit again.

Step 1: Read the refusal letter and officer decision notes

Identify every reason cited. Your new application has to answer them directly, not repeat the old file.

Step 2: Decide whether anything has genuinely changed

IRCC's own examples are a changed purpose of visit, a changed employment or financial situation, approved criminal rehabilitation, or a resolved medical issue. If nothing has changed, a new application is unlikely to be decided differently.

Step 3: Strengthen your ties evidence

An updated employer letter with your role, salary, and approved leave; proof of business registration or property; evidence of family responsibilities; and FBR tax records where they support your income story.

Step 4: Rebuild your funds picture

Recent statements showing regular income and normal spending, an explanation for any large transaction, and an amount that matches your trip length and where you will stay.

Step 5: Make the purpose and itinerary specific

A clear reason for the visit, realistic dates, and where you will stay — plus a host's invitation, if you have one, showing their status in Canada and what they will cover. A well-written visit visa cover letter helps tie the pieces together.

Step 6: Submit a consistent, complete file

Check that dates, job titles, and income agree across your form, letters, and statements, and answer the application's questions about previous refusals truthfully.

Frequently asked questions

Why was my Canada visitor visa refused?

Your refusal letter lists the reason or reasons. IRCC names two common reasons: the officer was not satisfied you would leave Canada at the end of your stay, or you are inadmissible to Canada. Officer decision notes, now included with most temporary resident refusals, explain the decision in more detail.

Can I appeal a Canada visitor visa refusal?

IRCC's guidance describes two routes: apply again with new information or documents that address the reasons in your refusal letter, or, if you believe the process was unfair, request a judicial review through the Federal Court of Canada. Judicial review is a legal step to discuss with a qualified Canadian lawyer.

Will applying again with the same documents work?

IRCC says applying again with the same information, even with an immigration representative such as a consultant or agent, will likely not change the decision. A new application should address the reasons in your refusal letter with new information or documents.

How much bank balance do I need for a Canada visitor visa from Pakistan?

IRCC publishes no fixed figure. It says the amount depends on how long you will stay and whether you will stay in a hotel or with friends or relatives. Show funds that clearly cover your whole trip, with statements that show regular income and normal spending.

Does a Canada visitor visa application need biometrics?

IRCC says you may need to give biometrics with your application. Follow the instructions in your own application to see whether they apply to you.

Can Travelaxis guarantee my Canada visa will be approved?

No. The decision rests entirely with IRCC. We help you prepare a complete, consistent, well-organized file, which is the biggest factor within your control.
